We often find in our practice a gap between what individuals expect to have in retirement and where they are today in their preparation for that event. A recent survey by Ameriprise Financial underscores this reality (http://newsroom.ameriprise.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=1765). Why is there often such a gap between financial reality and our hopes and desires? There are undoubtedly a large number of reasons why. Some may not be blessed with the opportunities others have, some may have access to resources other do not, and some may just be plain lucky. In spite of that, very few of the individuals our firm assists are incapable of reaching their financial hopes and dreams through sacrifice, persistence and following a carefully crafted plan. While time is on your side, and at the start of a new year, reevaluate what you need to do to achieve your financial hopes and dreams. Determine what you are willing to sacrifice to get there, and craft your plan to have financial success. We need a higher percentage of Americans to feel confident that they are on the right track and closing the gap to financial well-being.
